Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk interview with Jordyn Woods, 21, following the cheating scandal involving Tristan Thompson, Khloe Kardashian’s now ex-boyfriend and father of her daughter, True Thompson, became the program to watch after the scandal went public earlier this year.

But, according to Pinkett Smith, 47, she didn’t want the interview to happen. Learn why ahead.

“Jordyn really felt like it was the only safe place that she could do that interview,” Pinkett Smith, the host of the Facebook Live show, Red Table Talk, told People. 

“It actually wasn’t something I wanted to do because it was very close [to home], but as time transpired, Jordyn was just like, ‘I really need you in this platform’ and Will [Smith] felt like it was supremely important. So I was like, okay let’s do it,” she explained.

“I’ve known Jordyn Woods her whole life,” Pinkett Smith said when she interviewed the model on Red Table Talk. 

Woods’s father, John, worked as a sound engineer on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where she became close with the Smith family.

Their connection meant Woods felt comfortable — or at least as comfortable as she could be talking about a cheating scandal with a close family friend —  sharing her experience. 

She wanted ‘her [Woods] to have a platform to tell her story’

Pinkett Smith had a very specific goal in mind for her interview with Woods after she agreed to do it. 

“That was my intention honestly,” she said, adding, “I just wanted her to have a platform to tell her story. That’s it.”

She continued, saying, “She’s a young beautiful woman inside and out and me having been a young girl, we sometimes get in situations that we don’t necessarily know how to handle…You just [try to] help young girls navigate through life, through difficult situations we’ve all come across.”

Woods explained details about the night of the supposed “hook-up” with Thompson. She said they kissed but contrary to what reports were saying, she wasn’t “all over him.”

Khloe Kardashian called out Jordyn Woods for lying during interview

One part in particular of Woods’s interview really bothered Kardashian. So much so, she called out the former BFF of her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, on Twitter.

Here’s what Woods said in the interview that Kardashian had a problem with:

“I know I’m not the reason that Tristan and Khloe are not together,” Woods said. “This situation may have made it harder for her to want to be with him, but I know I’m not the reason.” 

Kardashian confronted Woods on Twitter for supposedly lying. 

“Why are you lying @jordynwoods ?? If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story. BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!” 

The 35-year-old later walked back her tweet. “I’m a rollercoaster of emotions & have said things I shouldn’t have,” she said. 

In another tweet, she revealed Woods’s actions were tough for her to deal with more so than her ex-boyfriend cheating on her (this marked the second time Kardashian dealt with Thompson’s alleged infidelity). 

“What’s been harder & more painful is being hurt by someone so close to me. Someone whom I love & treat like a little sister. But Jordyn is not to be blamed for the breakup of my family. This was Tristan’s fault,” she wrote. 

After Kardashian called Woods a liar on Twitter, fans were quick to point out she seemed to be placing blame solely on her. 

In a clip from part two of the Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 16 finale, Kardashian explains to her sister, Kim Kardashian, she doesn’t feel that way at all. 

“I realized the world took that [her tweet] so literally, like, I would never blame solely one person […] I feel bad even though Jordyn played a part I do feel bad if anyone would think I was putting the sole blame on her because that’s not the truth and I only like to speak my truth,” Kardashian told her sister. 

While we don’t know if Woods and Kardashian have a future together as friends, we know Kardashian is finding the beauty in life after the scandal.
