Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, who is known to go for months at a time without a single tweet, despite garnering nearly a quarter of a million followers, has provided a highly sought after update. “Hey everyone! Long time!” he teased.
I’ve just entered the Instagram world!
“I’ve just entered the instagram world… If you want to give me a follow I’m under fatdracula”.
He added that he was: “currently just waiting for my verification from @instagram.”
Fans have speculated that his sudden reappearance might have come ahead of his reported I’m A Celebrity stint, as the show starts this weekend.
“On your way to the castle?!” alextaylorspurs quizzed him in reply.
Many other fans are also eager to know whether the actor will be joining in on the action in the Welsh castle.
Although the line-up of 10 showbiz stars has already been announced and Simon – who plays Steve McDonald on Corrie – is notably absent from the list, many still believe he could be appearing.
A list leaked the previous week had not just 10 names on it, but 13, featuring DJ Locksmith, EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt and Simon himself.
It has been claimed that DJ Locksmith is a standby celebrity in case one of the confirmed personalities should leave unexpectedly, for example if someone falls ill.
However, fans believe that some surprises will be in store on the show, including new cast members being introduced along the way, as they have been in previous years.
Without so much as a confirmed appearance yet, some followers of the show have already tipped Simon as a firm favourite to win.
Bookies have also aligned with that opinion, claiming that both Simon and Frankie Bridge are joint favourites for the winner’s title.
The cast, also including Dame Arlene Phillips and Richard Madeley, won’t necessarily be having an easy ride.
They will all be foregoing their usual luxuries to be plunged into isolation in a remote Welsh castle – along with fellow stars, who they will either love or loathe.
Each star will be making their way into the castle, after an imposed two weeks of anti-coronavirus quarantine, to begin filming the show.
If the 46-year-old is indeed part of the line-up, it will mean being parted from his beloved wife of 11 years, Emma, with whom he has recently celebrated a wedding anniversary.
However, he is no stranger to immersing himself in the world of TV.
Elsewhere, he has been busy filming with Charlie Brooks, who plays catty Janine Butcher on EastEnders, as part of a sketch to raise money for Children In Need.
The pair will pose as each other’s dates, although in Coronation Street, hapless and unlucky in love Steve has already been down the aisle seven times with five different women.
This comes in stark contrast to Simon’s off-screen life, in which he is committed to his first and only wife Emma and their three children.
Fans can see Simon tonight on the Children In Need show, airing from 7pm, and they can also tune into I’m A Celebrity, which begins on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
