The Chase star Bradley Walsh, 60, has confessed he has quit booze and carbohydrates as doctors warned him he needed to “get fit” or he “could die” from heart disease before lockdown. The ITV personality is at high risk after his dad Daniel died of the disease aged 59.

It’s a silent killer.

Bradley, who turned 60 last month, is of a high risk of the “silent killer” and admitted it has been a “concern” since his dad passed away when the star was 33-years-old.

The game show host told The Sun: “I’m not on statins but what my heart guy said was, ‘Look, Brad, if you start training, all that (cholesterol) will drop. You need to get fit.'”

“I was a time bomb,” he admitted.

“I was quite lucky in regards to the calcium test but my doctor said I produce too much cholesterol.

“It’s a silent killer.”

The Doctor Who actor then explained how doctors warned him before the coronavirus lockdown, which influenced him to make some changes.

Bradley explained: “I got on the scales and saw I’d hit 14st 9lbs, the heaviest I’ve ever been.

“I really was quite big.”

He continued: “I thought, ‘Oh crikey, I’m gonna be in trouble here if I don’t lose the weight and start dealing with this’.

“I decided to get consciously stuck in. So, touch wood, I will be OK.”

The TV star, who now has regular tests and has “full medicals” every couple of years, revealed he has hereditary high cholesterol through her mum Margaret.

Bradley and his wife Donna have a 22-year-old son together, called Barney.

Bradley and Donna started their relationship in 1992 and went on to get married in 1997.

The ITV favourite has spoken openly about his love for Donna in the past, and admitted he “wouldn’t swap her for the world”.

Bradley told The Mirror in 2006: “Donna isn’t just beautiful, she’s the most fantastic wife and mother.”

Their son Barney also has a career in the spotlight as he starred in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Doctors and Law & Order UK.

Meanwhile, Bradley and Barney starred in their own travel series Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad.

Elsewhere, Bradley also starred in Coronation Street while he played the role of Danny Baldwin from 2004 until 2006.

Speaking about his role to The Mirror, the actor revealed how his spouse was the reason he took on the job.

“It’s because of her I signed with Coronation Street, she’s the one who recognised what it could do for me even though it would mean being apart.”
