Country superstar Blake Shelton surprised his fans by dropping a new single “Minimum Wage.”
Shelton debuted the news song on NBC’s New Year’s Eve television special on Thursday night, December 31. Shelton appeared virtually to introduce the song as well as premiere the music video to accompany the track.
“I got engaged to Gwen Stefani. I don’t care what else happened besides that. That made it a great year for me,” the country singer said before revealing his new song.
“Minimum Wage” follows his latest singles “Happy Anywhere” and “Nobody But You.”
“Girl your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,” Shelton sings in the new single.
However, Shelton received some backlash for the new song after several people criticized him for being insensitive.
People said the song’s timing was poor in light of the coronavirus pandemic’s effect on American employment.
