Are Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Friends Post-Split?

When Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced their divorce last year, fans were crushed. How could the couple responsible for the best lip-sync battle ever call it quits? It had some people questioning if love was dead altogether. But now that a little time has passed, and we’ve been able to get used to the idea of their breakup, people are wondering how they are doing post-split. Are they friends or is there post-breakup tension? Here’s where Tatum and Dewan currently stand.

How Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan met

Tatum and Dewan met way back in 2006 on the set of Step Up. Tatum told Elle about how he finally worked up the nerve to ask her out. “I had just gotten out of a pretty long relationship, so I was in no way ready for another,” Tatum said. “I was trying to run from what I knew Jenna was — not someone I was just going to date.”

He continued by explaining how he talked it over with his friends, and they encouraged him to go for it. So, later “that night I showed up at her hotel room with a sombrero on, and that was it.”

Dewan told her side of the story to Cosmopolitan: “It was two nights of being weird. We hadn’t even kissed. And then he went out partying with a bunch of dancers. His room was right above mine, and he came down drunk with a sombrero on, banging on my door. He was like, ‘I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Let’s do this. I just want to be with you.’ From that point forward, we were together.”

Three years later, the couple tied the knot in an outdoor fairytale themed wedding. They quickly become one of the cutest couples in Hollywood. Their life only gets sweeter with the birth of their daughter, Everly, in 2013.

Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum’s divorce

Tatum and Dewan announced their split in April 2018, after nine years of marriage, with a joint statement on Instagram. The statement was a long and serious explanation of their relationship and decision to separate. Part of the statement read:

“We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy.”

After the shocking news, a source told People that the couple had actually been separated for months. “This has been a long time coming,” the source said. “Like any marriage, they’ve had their ups and downs over the years, but they really started to grow apart within the last year.”

Are Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum friends?

The year following the split was probably hard on both of them, but Dewan opened up about her journey during that time. She wrote a memoir titled, Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day. The writing process helped her deal with the struggles she was having and process everything so that now, she feels like she’s in a much better place.

Tatum moved on and found love with singer Jesse J, while Dewan began dating Broadway actor Steve Kazee. Both couples are still going strong and seem really happy.

Although it was reported that the custody talks between Tatum and Dewan were “challenging and emotional,” they seem to have moved past that now. They are each busy in their new relationships and harbor no ill will towards each other. They share joint legal and physical custody of their daughter and often spend time together as a family for Everly. It looks like this former celebrity couple is making co-parenting look easy.
